Last week, we received word that our buyer's loan was denied. The short version of it is that yes, they had an approval letter stating they were approved when they made the offer June 5th, but by the time the government got around to underwriting the loan (July 27th), the husband had started his own law firm. Apparently, the VA underwriting office didn't get President Obama's memo that they were for the "little people" and denied the loan on the basis of insufficient employment or something. Fun.
Our reaction
1.) The anger phase (about 12 hours): One of Greg's co-workers put it best when he said, "Wow, you know things are messed up when a group of illegal immigrants can buy the house next to mine, but an American lawyer who served his country can't get a VA loan." Yes, this is the government I want running my healthcare. Idealism vs. implementation at it's best. Ok, done venting.
2.) The "What are we going to do phase?" (about 2 days): Greg's work will close it's doors the end of this month and we are due to the new office September 1st. We will live for a month in corporate housing and if the house doesn't sell by September 30th, we will lose the new house and just rent for the next year.
3.) The "we're dealing with it" phase (Saturday-now): Our house went back on the market last Friday and we're hopeful third time's a charm :). Our realtor has a broker open house scheduled for tomorrow and then a public open house this weekend. Hopefully, we will get some traffic. The last two times we got an offer the house was on the market for about 3 weeks. It would be nice if that happened again, but we know the odds in this market.
We really are OK about everything. Mostly, it's a pain having to keep the house in tip top shape again, but at least there's an end in sight to that part of it. As Greg wrote yesterday in an e-mail to his family, we are determined not to let it destroy the last few weeks we have here with friends. Thanks for all the concern and prayers.

Hopefully it all works out soon. What a mess to go through.
I can't believe it! If it's not one thing it's another, but I'm amazed at the strength your family has had throughout this whole process. I know everything will work out for you though--hopefully sooner than later.
OK... I just have to be eye witness. I went over Saturday BEFORE the open house... Sally was doing that last minute cleaning about an hour before and some random lady came over to look at the house!!!!! Sally graceousley (I don't know how to spell) invited her in!!! Oh... selling a house... Third time BETTER be the CHARM!!!!
Ya know we would all be okay if you would just stay and enjoy with us a little longer!!! Really we have been paying these people to have problems but it wasn't suppose to stress you out!!! Ha Ha!!!
HA HA HA.... :)
