My dad lives about 15 miles from Gettyburg. Even though we missed the re-enactments by a couple weeks, he got the kids some hats. At first, they were all about acting the part.
But then, we went to Gettyburg and taught them about what happened there and why. It was a somber place to visit, but has such a spirit about it. I would like to take the kids again when they are older and can understand even more.

(At the base of this memorial is listed every PA solider's name who fought and died. I found this monument the most moving of all the places we visited and could not help but shed a few tears on its steps.)
